Mary Katranzou was born into a creative family in Athens, Greece in 1983. Her mother, an interior designer and her father, a textile designer. Mary moved to America to study a BA in Architecture before moving to London to study a BA degree in Textile Design and an MA degree in Fashion, under the guidance of the late Louise Wilson OBE at Central Saint Martins.
Pictured below are my 2 favourites designs from Katrantzou's Graduate collection in 2008. Her theme was oversized jewellery on jersey-bonded dresses. Mary mixed boxy tones, placed prints and stripes throughout her work resulting in a bold statement collection.
Mary Katranzou is an icon when it comes to digital print, she is one of my most favourite designers to turn to when I need inspiration. What can be noted about her work is the use of bold colours, innovative digital print and statement silhouettes. Katrantou adds different textures of fabrics in her designs which give her work an interesting concept and I also like her use of negative space, a style what sets her apart to other digital print designers.
